URBAN LOFT typology
OPEN PLAN, INDUSTRIAL SPACES
With this renovation, Studio Luz made sure to keep the recognizable language of this raw, open, industrial space while elevating it with innovative spatial divisions perfect for apartment living.
FLEXIBLE ELEMENTS
CUSTOM STORAGE, DYNAMIC WALL
The apartment is versatile and open, taking a modular approach. Every wall surface embedded with custom storage, and movable walls create a variety of spatial possibilities.
TRANSLUCENT ELEMENTS
TRANSLUCENT WALL PANEL
Many of the new wall surfaces are translucent panels that can close or expose the raised primary bedroom, the guest bedroom/office and the bathroom for varying levels of privacy.
About the Loft Renovation
In the Leather District of Boston, MA
Boston’s Leather District, which sits east of Chinatown, is known for its 19th century brick industrial structures, which now host many loft apartments like this one.
For this renovation, Studio Luz sought to keep the historic character and openness of this Leather District industrial loft, while equipping it with the comforts of a modern apartment. Interior partitions stop short of the ceiling, preserving the character of the original space. Some walls are transparent, letting light through, as other walls are thickened by the storage within. By embedding flexibility into the new space with a modular approach, tenants can enjoy a range of spatial possibilities within a recognizable historical spatial type.
